Complaint - Rectifications for glass gallery railing

For me, that already looks very much like personal needs.

Remember to define the deadline specifically, that is not within 14 days but by 10/15 or so.

As some may have already read in the house pictures thread, we are having quite a lot of trouble with the glazier who is supposed to make our gallery railing.

The first time this glass railing was installed was on July 5th. We already pointed out various defects at that time; among other things, one glass was not installed at all because it was completely cut wrong, one glass is being replaced after we complained about the bubbles in the laminated safety glass. In addition, all of this was not installed very professionally. The screws were screwed in at an angle, the walls were dirtied and partly damaged, etc.

So overall a really substandard performance. We were recommended the glazier by our house builder, but he unfortunately works on his own account. Our house builder was more than appalled by the work (he really called it "botched work") – so he will definitely not cooperate with him anymore.

Since he did refer him to us, they now wanted to seek a solution that would satisfy both parties to a reasonably decent extent. We would make some compromises, but overall accept the work with appropriate corrections.

As said: the installation took place on July 5th – since then we have heard nothing. When asked, we were told that the glass panes that were complained about have meanwhile been delivered, but again were not fitting and therefore have to be redone by the supplier (personally, I would no longer work with that supplier – but whatever, not my playground).

Since this is apparently dragging on, I eventually cleaned the glass panes myself (I actually didn’t want to do that, since they will be smudged again during the corrections – I really don’t want to create extra work for myself). And lo and behold: when the glass is cleaned, you can see further defects. In this case, streaks between the two safety glass panes.

We also reported this to the glazier by email – and have heard nothing since.

We are slowly getting annoyed and are no longer in the mood to reach an agreement here.

Basically, we are not willing to pay an A-price for C-quality and at some point this issue should be off the table. We have now been waiting for over 2 months.

Therefore, I would now list the defects in writing by registered mail and demand appropriate correction.
My problem: I have to grant the glazier a reasonable period to make the corrections. Considering that we have already been waiting for over two months, I would now set a deadline of 2 weeks.

My question: is that "reasonable"? In this case he is dependent on his supplier – but that has been the case for two months now. I am not saying anything about the new defect we only discovered two weeks ago; that may still take time, but at least I would like a response regarding that.

So, as said: now a registered mail with the demand for correction and a request to respond to our email from September 20th within one week.

If that does not work (which we now suspect), a renewed deadline and then we would want to withdraw from the contract.

By now we no longer believe that this glazier can deliver the quality we want.

My question is therefore: are deadlines of 2 weeks each reasonable?

And, if in that time there is no correction or at least an effort towards it (if the supplier can’t, we already understand that), can we then really say: no thanks, that's it. Take your stuff and disappear!

After that, we would like to realize our gallery with a somewhat more competent glazier company.
