Our water in the newly purchased house is very hard. A water softening system was recommended to us from many sides. The friendly person came and advised Grünberg. SD 18, the smallest. What else could be done to protect the pipes is: additionally introducing minerals. That in turn brings another thousand more into circulation, and since the pipes will not last the next 30 years anyway (they are 36 years old), the question for us is. Is it really sensible? ops:What do the other forum members think? Thank you very much for the answers! Your Holwürmchen

We had a water softening system from BWT installed to protect the water-carrying devices and fittings. We have 26dH from a local cooperative source. We do not add minerals - in my opinion, that is not necessary. Experience: Positive: The water-carrying devices and fittings show no scaling as desired. Negative: The water tastes better as pure drinking water without softening. So sometimes we get drinking water from the one faucet that we have placed before the softener system for larger required water volumes in the outdoor area.

Doesn't have to be - as usual a matter of taste. I have already gotten so used to the taste of softened water that I don't like many mineral waters anymore. We also don't add anything anymore.

if the pipes have already been without a descaling system for 36 years, then they are already full of scale inside and protected against corrosion. The most important thing now is actually not to descale too much, 10-12° is enough, and to pay attention to the pH value so that the existing scale is not completely dissolved and corrosion occurs. The minerals are supposed to regulate the pH value. The minerals are not necessary just for drinking enjoyment.
