Hello,

we have a polygonal concrete pavement with 12mm joints (real 8 cm deep and about 3 cm deep false joints) on our 30 sqm terrace and have filled it with basalt joint gravel 1-3mm. So far so good, now the rather fine/light gravel has the disadvantage that during heavy rain the gravel grains jump out of the joints and afterwards the terrace surface is like a foot peeling (we like walking barefoot on it, it doesn’t bother me personally but it annoys the ladies).

A solid joint with a polymer joint mortar was suggested to us as an alternative, which, however, becomes a very expensive matter given the joint depth and especially the joint width, especially since it would be a huge effort to leave the joints "only" filled so far that the required minimum joint depth of 30 mm is reached (even with new installation).

Has anyone had experience with what happens if the polymer (slurrable) joint mortar is slurried into the existing gravel joint so that practically all cavities are filled with joint mortar and a firm joint forms together with the gravel?

In the upper area the gravel could be relatively easily removed with a vacuum cleaner (works wonderfully).
