Hello everyone,

Recently, our new building was clad with bricks. The brickwork looked great. Now, at the end of December, our bricks were grouted. The weather-facing side looks awful. According to our site manager, everything is in perfect order. After all, it has rained. Is that really normal and do we have to accept it like this?

After the brick cladding, leave the joints open for a winter, then only grout. That’s how a neighbor of ours did it. He was a professional and explained to me why (but I have forgotten it again). Many others grouted immediately after the brick cladding and often had efflorescence as well (which they then more or less successfully claimed). Nowadays no one has time or time is expensive. Construction physics processes can probably only be counteracted with chemicals?

Look online for "fugen klinker ausblühungen entfernen." There you will find tips (depending on the stage of the efflorescence) up to the chemical heavy artillery (formerly hydrochloric acid). Looks like lime efflorescence.

We had that quite clearly in the first winter as well. Either it has gone away over 2 summers now, washed off or no idea what, or I just don't pay attention anymore...

I still remember how much it annoyed me. But I also know that I did nothing about it and don't get annoyed anymore today?
