Hello dear house building friends,

hopefully we will start soon. We are building with a developer. The house (mid-terrace house 2 floors + attic conversion without basement) is planned so far. However, now come my extras that I still install / will have installed.

Now I wanted to know from you what you would definitely have installed in a house from your point of view or also things that annoy you that you didn’t plan directly.

So I’ll start with what is on my list.

    [*
      KNX bus cables
      [LIST]
      [LIST]
[*]at every socket in the house
[*]at specific points for temperature sensors
      [*]in the roller shutter boxes
      [*]outside for the awning
[*]outside at the carport for motion detectors
[*]possibly also for cistern fill level

[*
    network cables

      [*]at the TV
[*]outside on the roof for a DOM cam
      [*]outside in the garden house
      [*]in every room
[*]on the 1st floor upstairs on the wall for access points
[*]at the awning for the weather station
      [*]under the roof

[*]cable for electric charging station at the carport
[*]ventilation system in the bathroom and laundry room
    [*]empty conduits for photovoltaic
[*]separate water line for toilet / cistern / well
[*]well in the garden + line in front of the house for the cistern

What else comes to your mind? Or do you have good tips?

Thank you very much

Knx also at the switches, heating controllers.... Possibly visualization for Knx? Then also LAN there. LAN at the e-charging station. Controlled residential ventilation throughout the entire house. Only one camera? Have you ever dealt with that? Roof does not help at all because it's too high... LAN for access point on the ceiling. One is too few. Minimum 2. Possibly one more for the garden. Take a look in the search function. In the last few days there have been several discussions regarding network and APs. There is a good forum for knx. From your list it seems you haven't dealt much with automation yet. Motion detectors in the house, weather station, etc. are still missing here. What exactly do you want to achieve? Do you want to install and program it yourself? Then you also need an Ets license. Overall, so far this sounds more like a collection of ideas rather than planning....

Hi Rick,

thanks for your answer. Yes, it is still idea finding, planning only starts in 2 months.

As a camera I have chosen the Dome Cam Hikvision DS-2DE4225IW-DE, it can already see relatively far. The second camera would then be in the doorbell. I think that is enough. I had already listed LAN for the weather station. I don't know if I even want to install motion detectors. I also don't want total automation. I had already written about LAN in the garden house for the second access point. From my point of view, one access point on the first floor is enough for me. If I put a Cisco Aironet 1830 there, that should be enough; I need VLANs anyway and from my experience it has enough dB. I don't want too many APs because of the radiation. Otherwise, I also have my "rack" on the ground floor, so I can connect my extra access point there as well.

I was actually thinking about the GIRA Homeserver but I'm still undecided because it is a high price for the old hardware.

I would like to set it up myself. But whether I take a PI or GIRA Homeserver I still have to think about.

Thank you very much

Garm

We ourselves will also use Gira. But it is more limited in some things.
We still have a Gira system. So we only need one app and [Frau] knows the visualization ;)
If you enjoy programming, you can also use another server. Or VM on NAS....
You will need KNX depending on the weather station also on the roof.
I would at least install motion detectors in all walkways.
Since you don't want to automate much, I would ask myself whether it even makes sense with KNX. It can probably be solved more cheaply in a conventional way.

Maybe the small solution with G1 and X1 is enough for you.
An access point can already cover the house but not with 5GHz. That means you spend most of the time on the slow 2.4GHz network.
Cisco is expensive and ugly :) and also very slow. Take a look at Unifi. It’s more than enough for home.

Your phone emits more radiation than a hotspot. Either you want coverage or no radiation...
An access point at the rack makes little sense. There is usually a door between anyway. The APs belong in the areas where they are needed, for example living area and office.
The same applies to the garden. Not in the shed but outside.

And

The camera is certainly not bad. But it’s not about how far it looks. The spotlight doesn’t reach far at night anyway and you would need additional spotlights.
The problem is the viewing angle. It’s way too steep from the roof. So no facial recognition is possible. At the latest with a hoodie, cap, or hat you don’t see anything anymore.

Motion detectors and PM are what really make the whole thing smart. Without them, it’s just like conventional but executed as KNX.

I would plan the connection for a second access point. If one is not enough, a second can be retrofitted without any problems.

KNX is in my opinion simply way too expensive for the benefit. What you want can also be achieved with the use of targeted smart components for an absolute fraction of the cost of KNX. The money saved can then be invested in a nicer kitchen or whatever. Otherwise, I think your plans are good. Network sockets everywhere, at least double sockets, preferably more at the TV. Alternative position for TV possible? Then put sockets there too. Don’t forget the kitchen.
