Hello, I wanted to place a power station on the first floor of an old building (wood beam ceiling/single-family house/Built: 1939), but I am not quite sure if the ceiling can also support this weight.

    [*]Dimensions (LxHxW): 174x212x200 cm
    [*]Weight: 180 kg
    [*]max. user weight: 100 kg
    [*]max. load: 130 kg

I could not find a ceiling load capacity in the old documents.

Should a structural engineer be consulted?

Regards

Hello Tesla,

If you add up the loads, it would be a max of 310kg distributed over approx. 4m² - so around 80kg/m².
This would roughly correspond to the following situation: Imagine you are standing with two/three friends having a glass of wine - worried whether the ceiling can hold it?

Since I do not know the device and the ceiling, the condition of the wood, the dimensions of the beams, etc., it would still be advisable for you to have a structural engineer come and take a look at the device and ceiling; it should not cost more than 100 francs.

Hello,

We did that as well and I was also unsure whether the wooden ceiling could support my fitness equipment. I couldn't find anything in the documents either. So I then commissioned a structural engineer. That cost me 80 CHF and he gave the green light.

No problem, the wooden ceiling can support it.

But the data provided here shows that the ceiling can withstand this. Of course, anyone who wants to be sure can also hire a structural engineer. But he will not come to any other conclusion either.

But if you call in a structural engineer, then you are on the safe side. That reassured me as well and it didn't cost a fortune either.

Who is unsure should bring in external expertise. But with this weight and load, nothing can happen. I'm not too timid. ;)
