Good evening everyone

What options are there for treatment or sealing of an exposed concrete staircase? In its untreated state, it probably won't look good for long.

Thank you & best regards

Hi,

With concrete, you can do a lot afterwards.
Acid wash, grinding, polishing, sandblasting, bush hammering, etc. etc. Search here for betonsuisse. There is a great overview.
Depending on the surface, it is naturally more or less susceptible.

We also have a fair-faced concrete staircase that was poured on site. Compared to concrete staircases manufactured in the factory, you can hardly achieve an acceptable surface quality on site. Therefore, the staircase was now ground by a specialist company and small holes were filled with special putty.

Afterwards, the concrete (like all other fair-faced concrete surfaces) is impregnated. You can easily do this yourself and it no longer changes the appearance of the surface.

Google for Hebau, for example.

I attached a picture of how the staircase looked this evening after grinding.

regards

I just can't make any real progress on the matter, in the meantime we are currently moving in and the staircase is still covered. Maybe someone can still give me some tips. The staircase should be more resistant to dirt but must not become slippery.

Best regards

Hi!

Our exposed concrete staircase was cast on site two weeks ago. We had told the foreman that only putty should be applied as the final layer. At first, we didn’t have much hope that it would turn out well, but you can only kiss his feet for the result.

The carpenter was actually supposed to be on site today to temporarily cover the staircase nicely, and then we (current plan) have planned a coating with Beton Cire.

Just ask the internet. You can find quite a bit about it!

Concrete cire would now also have been my tip. The system also has corresponding top coatings up to the outdoor area, walkable, waterproof, etc. If exposed concrete is desired, I would check whether a precast element is possible and cheaper and then plaster it accordingly.

Thank you for the responses.

The staircase is made as a precast concrete element, so the question of execution no longer arises for us.

Best regards
