Buy a house and renovate or build new? What to decide?

For many an important question. Both have advantages and disadvantages. How did you decide and why.

Would you choose the same again??

Buy a newly built condominium. Yes, I would do it exactly like that again.

Everything else, like a used property, would only mean stress and time. 1 I don’t want, 2 I don’t have or it’s too much of a shame for me.

Purchase [ETW] used, move-in ready: Yes, I would do it again - it was cost-effective and quick.
Purchase [ETW] + major renovation (own work): Yes, I would do it again - it was a bargain but took a lot of work.
Purchase single-family house from foreclosure + a little renovation: Yes, I would do it again - it was a gamble, sold the house 8 years later with a 35% profit.
New construction [ETW] (self construction management + lots of own work): Yes, I would do it again (but only lived in it for 1.5 years) - realized my own dreams with a lot of stress and effort.

For all variants I have gone through in the last 20 years, there are advantages and disadvantages. It always depends on personal situation, life circumstances, wishes, and budgets, etc.

My next property is already being planned again. Used single-family house in a rather peripheral location including major renovation. My current [ETW] is simply too small for me and my neighbors annoy me ;-)
