Buy a Finnish log house?

Good day! My partner and I are planning to buy a Finnish log house built in 1990. We would like to know what we should pay special attention to. It definitely needs a new coat of paint (we would like to have this done professionally). The company would use paint from Brillux; is there something better to recommend? Wood expands and contracts a lot, and the house has been somewhat neglected on the outside in recent years. You can also see a few cracks in the wood on the exterior... how serious are these? Should they be sealed before painting? Are there any other tips you might have for us?

What does the energy certificate say? What is the condition of the heating? The windows?

The heating system is from 1997 (gas), the house itself still has a Finnish tiled stove. Windows are wooden and in good condition.

What I would personally be very interested in again is that one painting company would seal the cracks, the other would not do it or advises against it. What would be correct now?

If you are seriously interested in the house, then look at it with an architect who will advise you. It costs a bit, but you don’t buy a pig in a poke.

The cracks are not problematic at first as long as they don't let water inside.

For the coating, I can recommend products from the Swiss company diotrol. I paint our house with it and am very satisfied. It is oil-based, not film-forming, and therefore does not crack.

Pay special attention to the base area to see if it is not damaged. Constructive wood protection is important there.

Which company is the house from? Do the walls need to be adjusted?
