Hello,

two private individuals will be helping with our construction. I have heard that you only need to register them with some authority so that they are insured. Is this correct? If there are more than 2 people, I need a construction helper insurance, right? Or do I always need it?

Thank you very much for the answers.

You have to register the helpers with the BG BAu and then pay a contribution based on the number of hours worked. You have to record the hours and then send the total to the office every six months.
Why should I then take out a separate construction helper insurance?

It costs at least 100€, even if someone only works a few hours once in a while.

Is all of that correct?

Actually, you will be contacted by the Berufsgenossenschaft. The letter serves to determine whether insurance coverage should be granted for non-COMMERCIAL helpers. This includes friends, relatives, neighbors,... basically anyone who helps but does not act as a company. Excluded are the building owners themselves. Of course, the building owner (.....) must pay the insurance coverage for these helpers for the corresponding services. In principle, a good thing in case something should happen. But depending on the hours worked, it is not exactly cheap either. For example, 100 hours worked at a fictitious wage of €10.22 (WEST, €8.68 EAST) cost €198.14 (WEST, €168.28 EAST) in contributions.
