Hello and good evening!

I am currently planning the electrical installation of our new building. Actually, no smart home/KNX system should be installed.

However, I am now encountering a problem due to lack of space for the switch arrangement in the living room. At the living room entrance (kitchen, dining area, and sofa corner), light/heating and blind controls come together on a narrow wall. I would prefer not to have two vertical switch frames with 4 or 5 switches side by side. In total, 5 venetian blind units, 1 heating control, and at least 4 light units need to be controlled. In addition, possibly switchable sockets.

The electrical installation in the house will be implemented as a star wiring system.

Does anyone have a tip for a solution?

Best regards from northern Germany, Thomas

Why is a star wiring chosen if there is no interest in KNX or SmartHome?

Hey hello!

We are building a wooden house and want to avoid the junction boxes on the wooden walls.
And of course, keep all options open for later.
Currently, naively said, KNX is a bit too expensive for us.

Regards,
Thomas

Take a look at Homematic IP Wired. With it, you achieve the same result but cheaper.

We had the same "problem", 8 venetian blinds in the living-dining room, 7 individual lamps, switchable outdoor sockets, awning switch, outdoor lighting, etc. We distributed all the switches on three different walls, especially since the stability of a single wall is lost when switches are installed in a row there.

Best regards
Sabine

Hello,

if you are already wiring in star topology anyway (who is doing your electrical work?? you or your electrician?) then the additional effort for KNX is quite manageable. Actuator for 24 lamps 290 euros, power supply 80 euros, actuator for 12 blinds 290 euros, actuator for floor heating 8 rooms 220 euros, and switches depending on need between 35 and 135 euros each.

Of course, this only works if you have the option to decide what goes in yourself. The standard electrician adds another 2 times on top of the sum...

It is not cheaper with Homematic either. The problem with the 'expensive KNX' is that people go from hundreds to thousands. And I want this and that, and so on....
