Hello I have a house built in ’55 and the basement floor is still the bare concrete slab. I am looking for a solution to cover this nakedness, preferably cost-effective, stylish, and simple. (how else could it be) So far, I really liked a stone carpet, but for about 60sqm it’s not exactly a bargain. Simply painting with appropriate floor paint might be a solution, but I need something to even out cracks and jumps in the concrete; I assume this only works with filling and then painting, or am I mistaken? The challenge is, the basement gets flooded about once a year with approximately 5-10cm of water...

First step mix screed concrete, fill cracks. Screed concrete is available at any hardware store, 40 kg for 4.50. Then choose a two-component floor paint based on EP, for example from Remmers, and paint the concrete with it. This seals the floor waterproof. Alternative, pour leveling compound, then tiles on top. More expensive, more work.
