I am looking for dark baseboards / wall trims (smoked oak). Do I have to have them custom made by a carpenter, or can I get them ready-made somewhere? Thank you and regards Frank

Baseboards in the hardware store

Hello Frank,

I would first check at a hardware store to see if they have such baseboards. Most hardware stores already have baseboards in bar form. If you don't find anything at the hardware store, then you will have to have the baseboards custom made by a carpenter, which certainly won't be cheap.

Go check out a few [Baumärkte], then you'll see what they have and especially what it costs. And you can also get an alternative quote from a carpenter to see what it would cost there. The stuff from the [Baumarkt] always has the disadvantage that you have to cut it yourself, do the miters and so on. It's definitely neater when done by a professional.

Hello Frank,

You can definitely have your baseboards cut to size at the hardware store. It just costs a little more. Of course, you can also cut the baseboards yourself. But at the hardware store, you will certainly find a wide selection of baseboards, because if you go to the carpenter, it will cost you significantly more.
