Hello everyone!
What do you use under your hedges, in your front gardens, in your flower beds, etc.?
Are there any advantages or disadvantages of the respective options?
I am looking forward to your experiences!

Different
Gravel, bark mulch, wood chips, grass clippings
Plants have different needs and do not tolerate everything.
Grass clippings attract slugs
Mulch must be applied thickly enough to help against weeds. I still have to weed.

So far, we have only bark mulch under the hedge plants/shrubs. For a purely pragmatic reason: I can get it here at the gravel plant around the corner. I haven't really dealt with the pros and cons – so far everything is (still?) growing great.

In the long term, this is supposed to be replaced anyway by some kind of ground cover plants.

Between the fresh hedge was bark mulch to better retain moisture - fortunately it is now overgrown. Since we have a near-natural mixed hedge, there is naturally undergrowth underneath, so no additional mulch is needed. All kinds of branch/shrub cuttings/hay go underneath, which then decomposes slowly.

In the front garden I never had anything, so I scattered a very loose flower meadow mix between the perennials against the bare soil. Just enough to cover the ground. What I don't like there is pulled out and that's that.

Except for the gravel, every mulch is dug up and spread around by the birds, especially wood chips. There is life underneath
