Hello,

our construction company recommends a backwater valve with pump function, Kessel Pumpfix S, due to the slight slope and basement, which will cost us approximately 4,000-5,000€.

Alternatively, we can also have a normal backwater valve for only a few hundred euros.

What do you think? Are there clear pros or cons? How does one decide something like this?

Best regards and many thanks

The necessity of a backflow prevention device is stated in the notice for the wastewater connection. This is always the case when you are below the backflow level. The valve with pump function secures the "disposal" during the backflow event. So you have to decide whether you can manage without a toilet and shower for a while. Usually, it is only a matter of hours. Another consideration: electrically operated valves run on electricity. If the power fails, they neither close nor pump. I myself have 2 mechanical backflow valves. I have needed them only once in the last 17 years. I hope this serves somewhat as a decision aid.

says it correctly. Shut up yes, everything else is nonsense. Many other events are more likely!

Thank you, that is already a good statement.

We live on the mountain, water can only flow away. Have a manual flap (also boiler).
