Are these asbestos panels in the old building?

Dear forum,

we are currently preparing the property we bought for its demolition.

In the process, the attached boards beneath the wallpaper were discovered.

Does anyone know the material? Do you think it contains asbestos?

Thank you very much for your help!

Best regards
Bob

A remote diagnosis is of little use to you. There are online test kits to order for around €60. These are then sent to a laboratory and you receive a report back. I can only recommend this, if only for the sake of your health.

If it is asbestos (which no one here can say for sure), TRGS 519 applies regarding the handling of the substance.

Hi,

basically what Allthewayup wrote is correct. Even a professional can’t always tell if the material contains asbestos fibers. The lab can. What year was the house built? Which panels are you even talking about? The gray stuff looks like a foamed plastic from the picture. I can’t say anything about the brown stuff by the outlet below. Maybe some close-up shots of the fracture surfaces again.

Thank you very much for your answers!

Attached once again is a picture of the fracture surfaces.

The plates are somehow a composite of cork and the gray stuff.
I suspect the gray stuff is more likely plastic or foam - but I am not sure.
Therefore, I am very grateful for your assessment!

Best regards

Bob

If it is asbestos, it does not burn. Use a blowtorch outdoors to work on a broken piece for a longer time and see how it behaves. If it retains its shape and does not melt, then it is most likely asbestos. It already has very smooth fracture edges, which speaks against asbestos. It almost looks like foam in the photos.
