Hello dear forum community,

we are currently in the process of building a single-family house in the northern Ruhr area. The roof covering will take place within the next 2 weeks.
Can anyone provide information on whether it is now mandatory to install storm clips all over the roof during the roofing? And if so, could this be associated with an additional cost? It is a gable roof with a 48° pitch with clay roof tiles from the company [ABC].

We thank you in advance for your answers.

Best regards

So our prefab house provider has partially stapled the bricks. Apparently (according to the site manager) it is mandatory in RLP. So it is quite possible that there are regulations. What does the state building code say about this?

Hi,

whether storm brackets are mandatory, I can't tell you. However, this question wouldn't even arise for me. If the additional cost isn't exorbitantly high (e.g. under 500 euros), the future safety would be worth more to me. Even in Germany, the weather extremes have increased, and after the next stronger breeze, I want to still have a roof over my house.

Hello,

Explicitly as established law, in my opinion, no; however, all parties involved must comply with the current technical building regulations according to § 3 of the state building code. Excerpt:

(1) Buildings as well as other facilities and installations within the meaning of § 1 para. 1 sentence 2 must be arranged, constructed, altered, and maintained in such a way that public safety or order, in particular life, health, or the natural bases of life, are not endangered.

I interpret it this way – without claim to accuracy – that, analogous to the location of the construction site and predominantly prevailing wind conditions, appropriate measures must be taken by the roofer.

You pay it either way – whether it is included in the initial offer price or agreed upon afterwards. How high the costs might be, no one can reliably answer you, since we do not know your provider’s calculation.

Rhenish regards
