Hello dear building community!

I am very happy to have found this forum.
We will start building this year and are currently waiting for the building application to be submitted.

Now to my question. I would like to have a porthole window in our bathroom. It does not need to be able to be opened, as we also have a balcony door (without a balcony) in the room for ventilation.
We are building a solid house, with a knee wall of 2 m, so the porthole window would have nothing to do with the slope.

Now I would like to hear your concerns, suggestions, and experiences regarding a porthole window, without revealing yet what our builder has advised us.

I would be happy about your answers!

Best regards
Jenny

Thank you, Dirk. Yes, I see it the same way ;) I want it just for the looks. Anyone have experience regarding the seals or problems with them?

Hello,

I can't offer you any experience with it, but I would reconsider whether it should not be openable after all.

If you can't easily reach the porthole from the outside, it should at least be openable for window cleaning.

It's definitely chic! :)

Regards,

Dirk

We have a porthole for opening in the gable of the converted attic. Wooden frame with double glazing. Installed about 8 years ago. The windowsill was a custom-made piece by the carpenter. The window causes no problems. However, it has no locking mechanism at a certain opening angle. It can therefore swing completely open or shut due to drafts. You should not have your fingers in there...
