Hello.

Our concrete staircase is to be covered later with natural stone.
Is a covering height of 5 cm correct or too much?
I have attached the staircase.

Thanks in advance.

Hello, unfortunately I do not have exact information about stone flooring. But as information regarding wood flooring, we have planned 4 cm for the wood + 1.5 cm leveling/substructure. That would be similar to your planning.

Hello "bluminger". Since the natural stone slabs are fixed directly onto a load-bearing substrate (these are the treads and risers of the concrete staircase) with cement mortar, the material thickness of the slabs is actually rather secondary. 50mm is certainly very generously dimensioned; these would already be self-supporting! Theoretically, 10mm thick tiles would also fulfill their purpose, to consider the material thickness at this point in a derivative way. ---------------- Greeting: KlaRa

5cm natural stone as a covering?

Common for natural stone is:
Window sills: 2-3cm (inside rather 2cm, outside rather 3cm)
Kitchen countertop: 3-4cm (smaller 3cm, larger 4cm + number / size of openings)
Free-standing natural stone staircase and possibly landings 6cm (3+3 glued)
