Hello everyone,

the following situation:
Last week Friday I noticed 2 "large" (~5cm x ~5cm) spots in the corners of a wall in the living room, which I currently use very little. The emergency service came but couldn’t find a real cause. They told me to heat and ventilate.

So far so good. I then got a hygrometer and was worried because the values were around 60-65%.
A house technician came, checked the walls with a moisture meter but they don’t seem to be wet, he didn’t say anything further about it. The corner is apparently dry again now.
From the outside everything is supposedly fine as well.

The house is from the year 1950.

Now I have to admit, I have ventilated very little (or not at all) lately, also hardly heated, which I am now catching up on.
I am doing shock ventilation, including cross ventilation (the doors are hung, so direct airflow is possible) for at least 5-10 minutes. Morning, afternoon, evening.

Example: Today at 6:25 am 21° at about 61% humidity. Shock ventilated with cross ventilation: dropped to ~18 degrees and 47%. Window closed, had breakfast, checked again 51% at about 20 degrees.

I keep the rooms, as far as possible, constantly at 20-22 degrees.

Can I improve anything? Should I be worried? It is my first apartment and I am a bit nervous right now. I definitely don’t want mold and I know I have neglected it for a long time (for months even). A certain panic is rising in my mind now.

Best regards

Welcome to the forum, then please continue heating and ventilate regularly, the spots should then dry and decrease, the panic is unfounded, you have reacted well

Thank God these are already dry... still, I have a bit of concern that I may have reacted too late. It certainly takes a while for the quite high moisture to slowly dissipate, right?

Yes, it then settles at lower values.

Hello everyone.

So far, it has not occurred again. The humidity has also decreased well and now settles between 45-55 (depending on usage time) thank you very much :)

Is it property? If yes, you can install a decentralized ventilation system, so you can control how high the humidity is in your room.
