Hello,

On Wednesday, I decided to purchase an apartment and informed the real estate agent. Already that same evening, he suggested a notary appointment for next Wednesday and promised to send me the draft purchase agreement by Friday to review it over the weekend.

Assuming that there are two appointments at the notary, I agreed. However, a friend who works in the real estate industry now says that there is only one appointment and that I should have received the draft purchase agreement two weeks in advance... so what is it really? Is Wednesday already the one and final signing appointment, or does the notary prepare the contract afterward? I also have not yet received a financing commitment from the bank...

Hello,

If your acquaintance works in the real estate industry, why don’t you believe him? There is only one appointment and at the appointment you sign the notary contract to purchase the condominium.

Ideally, the draft contract should be presented to you for review 14 days in advance; there is no binding legal ruling on this; especially not if you agree to a shorter deadline – as happened here. BUT even at the notary – who must read the notary contract to you, and must answer any questions regarding the contract wording – you can still withdraw from the purchase.

Best regards
